CHARITY AND SPONSORSHIP ACTIVITIES


The implementation of the unified policy for the provision of charitable assistance to the Samruk-Kazyna Group of companies is carried out by the Samruk-Kazyna Trust Social Project Development Fund.

The Foundation's mission is to contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic life of the population and the prosperity of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Samruk-Kazyna Trust, adhering to the principles of legality, equality, voluntariness and transparency, implements charitable projects in the following areas:

  • Helping people and communities in the social and medical sector;
  • Media development, cultural community, human potential development, strengthening of labor relations and investments in sustainable development of society;
  • Implementation of regional social investment programs in the regions where the Samruk-Kazyna Group of companies operates.

Along with this, the Company implements programs aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle, implementing youth policy, providing assistance to vulnerable segments of the population, poor citizens, and others through corporate volunteerism and assistance to local communities.

Since 2020, the Company has been actively promoting ESG principles in the field of social responsibility to society through the implementation of volunteer actions. Since 2020, more than 6 thousand events have been implemented, and in 2023 more than 1 thousand.
 
For the systematic development of the volunteer movement, the Corporate Volunteer School project was launched in 2023, which brought together Company employees from all over the country. Panel sessions were held for 120 participants with representatives of the Center for Social Interaction and Communications, the Samruk-Kazyna Trust and the Social Projects Foundation, as well as training seminars from leaders of the volunteer movement in Kazakhstan.
 
The annual competition "Corporate Volunteer of the Year" has also been organized in 5 nominations among employees of the NC KTZ Group of companies.
 
In total, over 30 thousand man-hours were devoted to volunteer work by employees in 2024. 

 

In 2024, corporate volunteers assisted in the implementation of a number of actions and events, including:

 

  • participation in fundraising and humanitarian aid and the calculation of one-day wages for affected workers as a result of floods;
  • organization of the celebration of the state, national and professional holidays of Transport Workers' Day;
  • holding festive events in honor of Children's Day, Knowledge Day and the Day of the Elderly;
  • carrying out the "Let's get the kids to school" campaign for large families living at remote stations and crossings;
  • holding the "Christmas Tree of Children's Wishes" campaign for special children on New Year's Eve within the framework of the XIII Republican Youth Forum of NC KTZ JSC in Astana, as well as replication by young workers in the regions of Aktobe, Atyrau, Shymkent, Karaganda, Ust-Kamenogorsk;
  • participation in the "Wish Tree" campaign held by Samruk Kazyna JSC for special children of employees of the Fund's group of companies;
  • holding campaigns "Grocery basket" and "Household coal for winter" for single veterans and retirees of the industry.
  • Carrying out actions "Assistance to employees of public utilities" in the regions.
  • The company also helps to develop and support local communities through the following tools: 
  • The Company's employees also participate in blood donation campaigns on an ongoing basis. 
  • On Victory Day and Transport Workers' Day, visits were organized to home front workers and industry veterans with the presentation of food packages. 
  • On the Day of the Elderly, more than 100 pensioners were congratulated and awarded with memorable gifts. 
  • On the eve of the Nauryz holiday, workers in a number of regions hold charity fairs. 
  • On Victory Day and Transport Workers' Day, employees of Passenger Transportation JSC visited industry pensioners, veterans of the Great Patriotic War and home front workers, presenting them with gifts and food baskets.
  • Employees of KTZ Express JSC planted pear seedlings on the territory of the Maternity and Childhood Center in Astana. 
  • Assistance was also provided to pensioners on household chores, cleaning the territory, and garbage collection. 
  • On a monthly basis, employees of Kaztemirtrans JSC provide assistance to the Society of the Blind in the form of food, basic necessities, physical and material assistance. 
  • KTT employees also work closely with the Club of Kind People. On an ongoing basis, they provide assistance to their colleagues who have special children.
     

In 2024, in response to appeals from more than 45 employees of the group of companies JSC NC KTZ on financial support in connection with illnesses, accidents and other circumstances, organized fundraising through corporate mailings and publication of articles in the newspaper "Kazakhstan Temirzholshysy" with an appeal for voluntary donations from other employees of the Company. These measures have allowed us to raise a significant amount of funds to help employees in need.

Local community development and Stakeholder Engagement Programs.

 

Assistance in emergency response

 

In 2024, the Company made a significant contribution to combating the effects of floods. JSC NC KTZ allocated 2 billion tenge to provide assistance to regions affected by floods. 

The Company's trains transported 12,000 flood victims, military personnel, volunteers and rescuers, of which 8.9 thousand passengers were taken out of flood zones by passenger cars, and 540 children were sent to health centers and children's camps. More than 2.6 thousand personnel of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the National Guard were delivered to carry out emergency rescue operations.

1 thousand units of heavy machinery, 1.5 thousand tons of rubble stone, 5.6 thousand tons of crushed stone were transported to eliminate the emergency situation. 45 anti-flushing and 47 fire fighting trains have been formed. More than 9.9 thousand cubic meters of meltwater were pumped out by KTZ special trains. 

Over 23,000 railway workers have been mobilized to fight the elements. 930 railway volunteers are involved. 2.6 tons of humanitarian aid have been collected.

 

Construction of social facilities


In 2025, the Company initiated several projects for the construction of social facilities in the regions of its presence, in particular:
 

  • Together with the branch trade union, a football field was built in Ekibastuz, which became a point of attraction not only for KTZ workers, but also for the children of the city
  • A kindergarten for 140 children is under construction in Zharkent, Panfilovsky district, Zhetysui region. The main construction and installation works, external waterproofing and thermal insulation works, as well as external engineering networks have been completed.
  • An agreement has been signed with Wabtec to finance social projects as a joint contribution to the sustainable social development of the regions. The projects will cover the social infrastructure of the small towns of Ayagoz and Sekseul

 

Eco-projects


The company, together with its partners, contributes to improving the country's ecology. 

 

Restoration of tugai forests. 


To maintain the ecosystem after the fires in the Southern Balkhash region, OTLK EPA (a joint venture of KTZ, Russian Railways and Belarusian Railways) is implementing a project to restore tugai forests in Kazakhstan
As part of the initiative, more than 39,700 trees have been planted in the country from 2022 to 2024, with a total area of 14 hectares. 15,000 trees will be planted in 2025.
Tugai forests are a vital biotope for Bukhara deer and other ungulates. In addition, such forests are a natural water regulator.

 

Implementation of the Clean Kazakhstan campaign. 


As part of the development of a culture of respect for nature and the environment, in 2025 the Company is implementing an initiative to plant 120,000 seedlings of poplar, acacia, ailanthus and elm trees throughout Kazakhstan.

The direct planting of seedlings is carried out by employees of the KTZ group of companies. This initiative is supported by the railway workers of the republican movement “Clean Kazakhstan”.
