13-06-2025
A working meeting was held in the Almaty branch of NC KTZ JSC on the development of the infrastructure of the Altynkol station, an important logistics hub on the border with China. Significant freight traffic passes through the station in the direction of Iran and the Persian Gulf, Europe and Central Asian countries.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the design institute, industry veteran Kaltai Sambetov and railway workers. During the discussion, the experts reviewed the preliminary project for the development of the station, made a number of proposals and adjustments.
According to the project, it is planned to build six new marshalling tracks and a low-capacity hump at the Altynkol station. Work is also underway to develop adjacent sections: it is planned to build additional tracks on the Zhetygen - Altynkol section, as well as organize double-track traffic between Zhetygen and the Kurozek siding.
According to the First Deputy Director of the Almaty Freight Transportation Department Nurzhan Kurmanaliuly, the implementation of the project will increase the throughput and processing capacity of the station and sections by almost two times - from 18 to 33 pairs of trains per day. This will significantly increase the export, import and transit potential of the railway network.
According to the results of five months of 2025, 6.5 million tons of cargo were transported through the Altynkol station - 22% more compared to the same period last year.
