KTZ: Temporary restrictions are due to a decrease in train reception by the Chinese side

28-10-2025

In October of this year, there was a decrease in train reception from the People's Republic of China through the Altynkol interstate junction—from 14 to 10 trains per day, and on some days, as few as 6.

Authorized Chinese authorities are conducting an in-depth inspection of grain cargo, including sampling and laboratory analysis, in the cities of Urumqi and Beijing. The inspection takes 5 to 10 days.

This situation has impacted the operational conditions of the Kazakh infrastructure and has led to a backlog of approximately 3,000 railcars carrying export and transit cargo bound for China. This figure exceeds the standard number of rolling stock awaiting transfer.

However, the reception of these trains had previously been fully agreed upon with the Chinese side. To ensure the stable and safe operation of its infrastructure, NC KTZ JSC is forced to impose temporary technological restrictions on the acceptance of certain grain export cargoes traveling on container trains—no more than three trains per day.

This measure is temporary and necessary and is aimed at synchronizing shipments with the actual readiness of receiving infrastructure outside of KTZ's area of responsibility.

Overall, Kazakhstan's railway network is operating normally and is fully prepared to transport confirmed cargo volumes.
