Kazakhstani grain exports to China shift toward compound feed
03-11-2025
In 2025, China harvested another record harvest—over 700 million tons of grain. Consequently, requirements for the import of grain cargo have been tightened. The introduction of customs restrictions and state support measures for processed products have changed the structure of Kazakhstan's exports: finished products with high added value (compound feed) have become the main export item.
Compound feed has priority clearance at the border and is in demand by China's livestock sector, which has led to a significant increase in its exports.
In the first two months of the new marketing year (September–October), grain exports by rail totaled 873,000 tons, 72% higher than the same period last year. Of this, compound feed accounted for 672,000 tons (a 3.5-fold increase). Exports of highly processed products reached 56,000 tons (+44%).
In the first 10 months of 2025, 3.5 million tons of grain were shipped to China, a 35% (+901,000 tons) increase compared to the same period last year.
