The first eco-friendly locomotives arrive in Kazakhstan

A ceremonial reception was held at the Almaty locomotive depot for the first hybrid shunting locomotives of the CKD6H series in the CIS, developed by CRRC Ziyang (China) in cooperation with Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ).  

The CKD6H is based on CRRC's clean transport platform and is adapted to the harsh climate of Central Asia. Its hybrid power unit (diesel engine + traction battery) is integrated with digital technologies and an intelligent energy management system.

Compared to conventional locomotives, the new model reduces fuel consumption by over 45%, noise levels by 80%, and pollutant emissions by up to 83%.

The new locomotives are equipped with a 540 kWh diesel engine and a traction battery with a capacity of at least 900 kWh. The battery can be charged both by the diesel engine and via external charging stations.

The CKD6H locomotive was designed, manufactured, and tested in just 14 months. It marks a significant step toward a "green" future for Kazakhstan’s railway transport.
