KTZ and China Railways Sign New Strategic Cooperation Agreement

In the framework of the implementation of the instructions and foreign policy of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, aimed at strengthening transport and logistics ties with China, NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC and the State Corporation China Railways signed an Agreement on Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation.

The document was signed during the official meeting of the Chairman of the Management Board of KTZ Talgat Aldybergenov with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of China Railways Mr. Guo Zhuxue.

The new agreement replaced the previous one, concluded in 2014, and reflects the current priorities of the two countries in the field of transport cooperation:

• development of international transport routes through the territories of Kazakhstan, China and other countries;
• development of the Trans-Caspian international transport route and attraction of additional cargo flow in the direction China - Europe and back;
• implementation of infrastructure projects to increase throughput;
• development of cooperation in container transportation;
• improving the efficiency of transportation by optimizing routes, schedules and coordinating operations;
• promoting the establishment of a flexible and competitive tariff policy;
• unification of the regulatory framework to simplify cross-border transportation;
• implementation of digital technologies and standards to improve safety and automation, etc.

Strengthening transport and logistics ties with China will give a new impetus to the development of transportation along the China-Europe route and increase the attractiveness of the Trans-Caspian route, enhancing the strategic role of Kazakhstan as a key transit hub in the Eurasian space.
