KTZ Implements Additional Measures for Safe Train Operations Amid Severe Weather

JSC NC KTZ is implementing a set of measures to ensure train traffic safety during the period of deteriorating weather conditions.

On December 10, 2025, weather conditions sharply worsened at Dostyk Station, with the speed of the northwestern wind reaching over 20 m/s accompanied by snowfall. Visibility was zero due to a snow blizzard.

Due to the abnormal weather conditions, shunting operations at Dostyk Station were temporarily suspended from 20:15 on December 10, 2025, until 02:00 on December 11, 2025.

A total of 114 railway workers were involved in snow-clearing efforts, including 67 workers during the night shift. Currently, 25 employees are working to clear snow from railway switches.

Stormy winds with gusts of up to 30 m/s also caused difficulties in train and shunting operations on the Beskol – Dostyk section and at Dostyk Station itself, leading to forced restrictions on freight transportation in this direction.

Furthermore, due to deteriorating weather conditions on the railway sections Shu – Shyghanak and Shokpar – Alaygyr, train speeds have been reduced to ensure safe passage.

According to weather forecasters, precipitation mainly in the form of snow is expected across Kazakhstan throughout December, with gusty winds and snowstorms forecast in some areas.

Adverse weather conditions are expected to persist for several more days on the Koktuma – Rzd.16 section, an area of constant wind impact.

We note that the Altynkol – Khorgos border crossing is operating in normal mode.
