01-10-2026

The VII Eurasian Forum on Transport Safety and Digitalization was held in Almaty at the ALT University named after M. Tynyshpayev. The event brought together representatives from the transport industry, IT companies, security system manufacturers, as well as railway administrations from Russia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and other countries operating on the 1520 mm track gauge.

The participants discussed traffic safety, the digitalization of the transportation process, transport infrastructure management, and workforce training. Dedicated sessions focused specifically on rail, road, air, and water transport.

One of the main topics was safety culture. KTZ operates under the "Just Culture" principle, which provides for open reporting of errors and potential threats. When analyzing incidents, both direct causes and systemic factors affecting safety are examined. Personnel readiness is tested through regular training and the simulation of emergency situations.

"Safety begins with the ability to identify a risk in a timely manner and report it openly. This approach allows us not only to analyze events that have already occurred but also to prevent them," noted Marat Shakenov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy."

Special attention at the forum was given to the digital transformation of KTZ. The company is forming a unified digital environment for transportation process management, combining planning, operational management, and control.

Digital solutions are applied in freight and international transportation, asset management, analytics, and the control of investment projects. Specific areas of focus include data protection and cybersecurity.

Digitalization is being utilized to develop transit potential. KTZ is advancing the China–Europe–China and North–South container routes, as well as multimodal transportation leveraging ports, dry terminals, and container hubs.

KTZ supports the operation of approximately 16,000 km of railway tracks, operating more than 2,000 locomotives and over 41,000 wagons. The company employs 118,000 people. The annual transportation volume stands at about 319.9 million tons of cargo, with a passenger turnover exceeding 11.4 billion passenger-kilometers.

As part of the forum, transport and logistics developments were presented at an exhibition.

The student hackathon "KTZ – ALT INNOVATION" also took place, where participants developed digital solutions for the railway industry based on real production tasks provided by KTZ.
