Students, AI, and KTZ: A prototype digital twin of a locomotive was presented at an industry hackathon

13-04-2026

KTZ together with NU and Higgsfield (a domestic AI startup) held a hackathon aimed at finding digital solutions.

KTZ presented the SWE case study "Telemetry Made Easy: Visualizing Locomotive Telemetry" to the participants.

Over the course of 24 hours, 56 teams from various universities across the country developed prototypes and applied solutions designed to monitor locomotive conditions in real time and detect potential malfunctions early.

Following the hackathon, KTZ received a number of promising prototypes that can be used for further development and implementation. The format allowed for the rapid testing of dozens of technological hypotheses and the identification of the most effective approaches.

According to the hackathon results:
— 1st place went to the NU student team "Хакнущики" (Hacknushiki);
— 2nd place went to NaN;
— 3rd place went to ForCode.

Hackathons of this format not only facilitate the implementation of AI solutions but also create a talent pool of trained IT specialists.

The company intends to continue its collaboration with domestic universities and develop similar formats as a tool for attracting new ideas and technologies to the transportation industry.
