'A Safe Level Crossing' campaign took place at Kushmurun station

10-07-2026

At Kushmurun station, part of the Kostanay branch of the main railway network, a national preventative campaign entitled ‘Safe Level Crossing’ was held as part of the ‘Law and Order’ initiative. Its aim was to remind drivers of the rules for crossing railway tracks and to reduce the risk of road traffic accidents at level crossings.

Railway staff, transport police and line police officers took part in the campaign.

The event took place at the level crossing at the 290 km mark on the Kushmurun–Esil section. This is one of the busiest level crossings in the region: 45 freight trains and 14 passenger trains, as well as around 3,000 wagons, pass through here every day. The crossing is a major route for road traffic to and from settlements in the Auliekol District, as well as the Kostanay and Akmola regions.

During the campaign, participants held safety briefings with drivers, reminded them of the need to strictly observe the Highway Code when crossing railway tracks, and distributed information leaflets. A total of 89 car drivers and 35 lorry drivers received safety briefings.

KTZ reminds the public that railway level crossings are high-risk areas. Drivers must strictly observe the requirements of road signs, traffic lights and audible signals; they must not enter a level crossing when the signal is red, nor attempt to cross the tracks in front of an approaching train.

‘Safe Level Crossing’ campaigns are taking place across all regions of Kazakhstan. They are aimed at promoting a culture of safe behaviour amongst road users, preventing offences at level crossings, and safeguarding the lives and health of citizens.
