Reconstruction of Shamalgan and Kazybek Bek stations completed in Almaty region

The reconstruction of the Shamalgan and Kazybek Bek railway stations has been completed in the Almaty region.

The Shamalgan station was built in 1970. Following the reconstruction, the building's area was increased from 241.5 to 285.5 square meters. The modernized station is a state-of-the-art, single-story building that meets all passenger comfort and safety standards.


The scope of work included roof installation, exterior and interior finishing, and the setup of outdoor and indoor engineering networks for water supply, sewerage, heating, and power supply. Additionally, the platform was reconstructed, the surrounding area was landscaped, and modern equipment and furniture were installed. Furthermore, the building's load-bearing structures, including the foundations, walls, and anti-seismic belt, were reinforced.

A total of 20 passenger trains transit through the Shamalgan station daily, providing rail links to Kyzylorda, Almaty, Karaganda, Astana, Kostanay, Mangistau, and Beyneu.


The Kazybek Bek station, built in 1960, saw its area expanded from 82.3 to 236.7 square meters following the reconstruction. The scope of work covered roof installation, exterior and interior finishing, and the setup of outdoor and indoor engineering networks for water supply, sewerage, heating, and power supply. The platform was also reconstructed, the surrounding area landscaped, and modern equipment and furniture were installed.

Two passenger trains transit through the Kazybek Bek station daily, providing a connection to Almaty.

The reconstruction of the stations was carried out as part of the railway infrastructure modernization program, in execution of the Head of State's directive, and with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Transport, the Akimat of Almaty Region, and Samruk-Kazyna JSC. The project was funded through NC KTZ JSC’s own resources.
