Reconstruction of Mangistau railway station completed in Mangistau region
23-10-2026
On October 23, 2026, the renovation of the 1969-built Mangistau railway station was finalized in the Mangistau region. This initiative aligns with the country's broader railway station modernization program driven by instructions from the Head of State.
The reconstruction completely transformed the station building, which comprises three above-ground floors and one technical level. Works included roofing, facade, and interior finishing, alongside the modernization of engineering utilities and communication networks. The station now boasts a modern high-tech architectural design. The facade features stained-glass structures that ensure heat retention and protect the interior from ultraviolet radiation. The updated roof is equipped with thermal insulation and an electrically heated stormwater drainage system.
The building's functional zoning has been redesigned to meet passenger needs. The first floor houses a security screening zone, a lobby, ticket offices, a waiting area, a coffee shop, and a luggage storage room. The second floor features an additional waiting area, mother-and-child rooms, long-stay lounges for passengers, and retail spaces. The third floor is dedicated to administrative and staff offices. The interior is finished with modern non-combustible and wear-resistant materials. A wall bas-relief reflecting the history, cultural values, and key landmarks of the region has been installed inside the building.
Special attention was paid to the accessibility of passengers with reduced mobility (PRMs): elevators, escalators, and moving walkways (travelators) have been installed, along with tactile navigation and a designated short-stay lounge. The station is equipped with advanced ventilation, video surveillance, access control, and fire alarm systems, as well as security screening equipment. Waiting areas feature passenger information displays and anti-vandal seating.
Mangistau station is categorized as a first-class facility, handling an average daily passenger volume of approximately 2,481 people. The station serves 16 passenger trains, connecting Mangistau with Almaty, Astana, Aktobe, Kyzylorda, Karaganda, Zhezkazgan, Pavlodar, Semey, Turkestan, Shymkent, Taraz, Uralsk, and Atyrau, as well as destinations in Uzbekistan.
The project was financed through the internal funds of NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Transport, Samruk-Kazyna JSC, and the Akimat of the Mangistau region.
