Railwaymen of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan discussed the development of transportation and port infrastructure

Talgat Aldybergenov, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "NC "KTZ", held a meeting with Zufar Narzullaev, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "Uzbekiston Temir Yullari".

During the meeting, the parties discussed:

  • The development of transportation towards the Kazakh ports of Aktau and Kuryk;
  • Issues of synchronous development of the railway infrastructure of both countries.
     

Over the past 10 years, the volume of rail transportation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan grew by 76%:

  • From 19 million tons in 2015;
  • To 33 million tons in 2025.
     

The volume of transit transportation to/from/through Uzbekistan increased:

  • From 7 million tons;
  • To 18 million tons.
     


The total volume of transportation between the countries for the first 4 months of 2026 exceeded 13 million tons, showing a 36% growth compared to the same period in 2025.

Special attention was paid to infrastructure development to further increase cargo traffic.This year, KTZ is finalizing the implementation of the strategic "Darbaza – Maktaaral" project.

The need to synchronize infrastructure projects with the Uzbek side was emphasized to enhance throughput capacity and transportation efficiency.

 

KTZ is implementing measures to develop port infrastructure on the Caspian Sea:

  • Dredging works have been completed in the port of Kuryk;
  • Similar works in the port of Aktau are planned to be completed by the end of this year.
     

As part of the visit, a meeting was held with representatives of the Uzbek business community to discuss the expansion of transport and logistics cooperation.
