Railway station modernization progress inspected in three regions
13-05-2026
Murat Toregeldin, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy", made a working trip from May 8 to 12 to railway infrastructure facilities in the city of Almaty, Ulytau Region and Karaganda Region where he inspected the modernization progress of ten railway stations.
During the inspection tour, special attention was paid to the pace of construction, quality of work performed, adherence to production schedules, and safety issues. Additionally, working meetings were held with regional leadership, representatives of contracting organizations, and technical specialists.
The trip included visits to the railway stations of Sarybel, Myrza, Nura, Karaganda-Sortirovochnaya, Zhana Karaganda, Zhanaarka, Zhezkazgan, Karazhal, Kyzylzhar and Almaty-1.
In the Ulytau Region, modernization covers four railway stations: Zhezkazgan, Zhanaarka, Karazhal and Kyzylzhar. Positive conclusions from the RSE "Gosexpertiza" have been received for all facilities, confirming the compliance of project solutions with established requirements.
In the Karaganda Region, work is underway at 14 railway infrastructure facilities, including four passenger platforms.
Special attention during the trip was paid to the Almaty-1 station, one of the country's largest transport hubs, with a total area of over 17,000 square meters. More than 2.5 thousand passengers pass through the station daily, and the facility's potential capacity exceeds 6,000 people per day.
Work at the facility is in an active phase. As part of the modernization, load-bearing structures are being reinforced, engineering infrastructure is being updated and the overall operational reliability of the building is being enhanced. The highest level of completion has been achieved in interior finishing works (60%), external engineering networks (57%), and roofing works (55%). The construction of the island platform made of reinforced concrete structures has been fully completed.
In parallel, work continues on engineering networks, landscaping of the surrounding area, construction of a concourse, an underground passage and related passenger infrastructure. The key emphasis is placed on improving passenger comfort and safety: modern waiting rooms are being created, a barrier-free environment is being implemented, and navigation is being improved.
A separate block of work is related to increasing the seismic resistance of the facility. Reinforcement of load-bearing elements is being carried out, bringing the building into compliance with current building codes, taking into account the seismic specifics of the region. Concurrently, fire safety and video surveillance systems are being modernized.
Following the working trip, specific instructions were given to strengthen construction control, ensure the quality of work performed, and guarantee unconditional adherence to the approved project deadlines.
