Oskemen-1 railway station reopens after major reconstruction

The Oskemen-1 railway station in the East Kazakhstan Region has officially reopened following a comprehensive reconstruction project. The grand opening ceremony was attended by Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "Samruk-Kazyna"; Nurymbet Saktaganov, Akim (Governor) of the East Kazakhstan Region; Yelzhas Otynshiyev, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy"; as well as railway industry veterans Alexander Stepura and Kyrykbay Alseitov, Chairman of the Veterans' Council.

The station now features a brand-new building that meets modern standards for comfort, safety, and passenger flow management. The original station building was constructed in 1938. Following a structural assessment, a decision was made to demolish the old structure and build a completely new facility.

As part of the reconstruction, a state-of-the-art building was erected, engineering networks and communications were fully upgraded, and extensive interior and exterior finishing work was completed. Additionally, the passenger platform was reconstructed, and the surrounding station grounds were landscaped.

Today, the Oskemen-1 station serves more than 2,000 passengers per day. A total of 12 passenger trains pass through the station, connecting Oskemen with Astana, Almaty, Ayagoz, Zhezkazgan, Karaganda, and Dostyk.

The reconstruction of the station was carried out as part of the national railway station modernization program, initiated under the directive of the Head of State.

The project was funded through JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy's" own resources, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Transport, JSC "Samruk-Kazyna", and the Akimat of the East Kazakhstan Region.

The upgraded facility has transformed into a modern passenger hub, providing significantly more comfortable and safer conditions for both passengers and railway employees.
