Museum of the History of Kazakhstan Railways officially opened in Astana

The opening ceremony of the Museum of the History of Kazakhstan Railways, themed "From the Silk Road to Steel Mainlines," took place on the territory of the "Nurly Zhol" railway station complex.

The ceremony was attended by Zhenis Kassymbek, Akim of Astana, Talgat Aldybergenov, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC KTZ", and representatives of the railway industry.

The museum, covering an area of 3,200 sq. m., includes four thematic halls: "Turksib and Mukhamedzhan Tynyshbayev," "Evolution of Locomotives," "Professions and Innovations," and "History of Kazakhstan Railways."

The exposition combines historical materials with modern digital technologies, including interactive panels, multimedia screens, AR and VR solutions, as well as simulators.

The museum features original locomotives and rolling stock models, including a new-generation CR200J passenger car. Visitors can explore its interior and modern technical features. Among the key exhibits are the ChME3 and 2TEM10 series shunting diesel locomotives, the VL80 series freight electric locomotive, and the TEP70 passenger diesel locomotive, all of which played a crucial role in the development of the country's railway system. Visitors can study their mechanics and climb into the cabs of select locomotives.

The museum fund comprises more than 250 exhibits, including railway lanterns, signaling elements, rail infrastructure items, working tools, archival materials, technical devices from various eras, and departmental awards.

The tour for the first visitors was conducted by professional tour guides alongside Zhiger Seitov, a driving instructor at the Astana Locomotive Operation Depot and a participant in the KTZ Youth Talent Pool. He demonstrated the operation of a train driver simulator and spoke about locomotive control principles under conditions that closely replicate reality.

The museum grounds also house a dining car for cultural and educational events, as well as a coffee shop equipped with an information board displaying the train schedule of the "Nurly Zhol" station.

The museum will serve as a venue for temporary exhibitions dedicated to transport, engineering, industry, and modern technologies.
