Locomotive Crews from Shu and Esil Depots Prevent Collisions at Railway Crossings

26-06-2026

On June 26, thanks to their professional actions, the locomotive crews of the Shu and Esil operational locomotive depots prevented two traffic accidents at railway crossings.

At 08:32, on the Tobol – Esil section along the Amankaragai – Kushmurun block, the driver of a passenger train traveling at a speed of 97 km/h applied emergency braking before an unattended regulated railway crossing due to the sudden intrusion of a KamAZ truck. Thanks to the timely actions of the locomotive crew, a collision was avoided. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene. The crossing is equipped with a crossing signaling system: traffic lights with two horizontally arranged, alternately flashing red lights and an audible alarm.

At 08:41, a similar incident occurred on the Shu – Shyganak section along the Zhideli – Berlik block. The driver of a freight train applied emergency braking after a Toyota Land Cruiser drove onto an unattended railway crossing.

A collision was avoided. The train delay amounted to 6 minutes.

NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC urges drivers to strictly observe traffic regulations when traversing railway crossings. A train has significant mass, and its braking distance can exceed 1,000 meters, making it impossible to stop the train instantly.

Every violation of the rules at a railway crossing poses a real threat to the lives of drivers, vehicle passengers, and train occupants. It was solely due to the professionalism, attentiveness, and swift actions of the locomotive crews that tragic consequences were avoided in both cases.

Information regarding both incidents has been forwarded to law enforcement agencies.

The preliminary cause of the incidents is the violation of traffic regulations by the drivers of the motor vehicles.
