KTZ renewed 686 kilometers of railway tracks since the beginning of the year

JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy continues its scheduled renewal of the railway infrastructure. During the first half of 2026, 686 km of tracks were repaired. The work is progressing on schedule, with plans to renew 1,577 km by the end of the season.

Track repairs enhance traffic safety and allow for increased train speeds. This year, train speeds are planned to be increased on several sections of the network: by 400 km of tracks for trains with Talgo carriages, by 500 km for other passenger trains, and by 350 km each for container and freight trains.

The modernization of the track superstructure is also underway. In 2026, 268 km of tracks on wooden sleepers will be replaced with reinforced concrete sleepers featuring elastic fasteners. This solution makes the track more reliable and durable, helps maintain gauge stability, reduces vibration, and ensures smoother train movement.

Specialists monitor the condition of the railway infrastructure using mobile diagnostic complexes that combine the modern functions of track-measuring and flaw-detection cars. They enable the prompt detection of rail defects, which enhances train traffic safety.

Consistent infrastructure renewal efforts are already yielding noticeable results. In 2025, 1,575 km of tracks were repaired against a target of 1,480 km. Over three years — from 2023 to 2025 — 4,448 km of railway tracks were renewed, which is 234 km more than the planned volume.

Thanks to the work carried out, the technical condition of the railway network has improved. Train speeds were increased on sections with a total length of 610 km.
