KTZ Prepares Railway Infrastructure and Facilities for Winter

21-10-2026

KTZ has completed its autumn commission inspection of railway facilities. Specialists verified the readiness of infrastructure, machinery, and personnel to operate under conditions of heavy snowfall, blizzards, and low temperatures. The commission inspected track facilities, signaling and communications, power supply, traffic organization, freight operations, as well as locomotive, wagon, and passenger departments.

At stations, particular attention was paid to compliance with shunting operation technologies, public address communications, and the handover of shifts. Winter preparation is a crucial stage in ensuring uninterrupted railway operations. The autumn commission inspection allows priorities to be set in advance and measures to be taken before sustained cold weather sets in.

In the track department, the condition of switches, track elements, and snow protection structures was checked. Priority tasks include preparing snow-clearing and snow-removal machinery, checking radio stations and CATS (Continuous Automatic Train Signaling) devices, and providing the necessary equipment for snow management.

In the signaling, communications, and power supply departments, the condition of railway automation devices, cable lines, traction substations, and overhead catenary systems was assessed. Special emphasis was placed on equipment maintenance and timely repair work.

In the locomotive and wagon departments, worker training, the technical condition of equipment, and the availability of spare parts, tools, and lubricants were verified. In addition, tasks were set to replenish emergency reserves and improve readiness for troubleshooting under winter conditions.

A separate focus area is personnel training. Employees will undergo additional briefings and practical exercises on actions to take during snowfalls, blizzards, low temperatures, and limited visibility. Special attention is being given to "first-winter workers"—employees who will be working during the winter season for the first time.

Based on the inspection results, business units must re-verify the readiness of machinery and snow protection structures, replenish material stocks, and conduct additional training sessions with staff. Timely execution of these measures will increase the winter readiness of railway facilities and ensure train traffic safety.
