KTZ discusses transportation of the new harvest's grain

07-09-2026

A meeting of the operational grain headquarters on organizing the transportation of the new harvest's grain was held at KTZ. The meeting took place via videoconference on the Zoom platform. It was attended by more than 100 exporters, traders, and wagon fleet operators. Representatives of the Committee of Railway and Water Transport of the Ministry of Transport were also invited.

The meeting participants discussed the readiness of the infrastructure and the wagon fleet for peak transportation volumes. Special attention was paid to the even distribution of loading throughout the month to prevent wagon accumulation and downtime at stations.

From September 2025 to August 2026, more than 15 million tons of grain were transported across the KTZ network—a record volume. Export shipments reached 11.8 million tons, with 7.6 million tons sent to Central Asian countries. Shipments to Afghanistan increased threefold, reaching 1 million tons.

In August 2026, around 1.2 million tons of grain were transported across the KTZ network, which is 35% higher than the figure for the same period last year. Export shipments reached 895 thousand tons, showing a 46% growth, while 262 thousand tons were delivered to the domestic market. Transport of milled products increased by 18%.

Around 15.2 thousand grain carriers and 17.1 thousand covered wagons are involved in grain transportation across the network. With the timely submission of applications and steady unloading, the existing wagon fleet is sufficient to transport the new harvest.

Grain elevators and siding owners were advised to ensure round-the-clock operations, and shippers were recommended to plan volumes in advance and submit transportation applications on time.

Wagon owners and operators were advised to provide incentive discounts for exporters when loading grain in the first half of the month. This will allow for an even distribution of volumes and reduce the load on the railway infrastructure in the third decade of the month.

To ensure prompt coordination of transportation, the grain headquarters will continue its work with the participation of KTZ divisions and subsidiaries, wagon fleet operators, seaports, grain unions, and exporters.
