KTZ and Azerbaijani partners discuss development of TITR and logistics Infrastructure

A working group from JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" (KTZ), led by Yerlan Koishibayev, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board, paid a working visit to Baku.

As part of JSC "Samruk-Kazyna's" objectives to develop transport and logistics infrastructure, the delegation held a series of meetings with key partners to discuss projects related to the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).

In particular, as part of KTZ's ongoing efforts to build an external terminal framework along the TITR route, the delegation visited the Port of Alyat. The purpose was to inspect the port's terminal facilities and discuss prospects for joint logistics projects. These projects will serve as vital links for the TITR and create synergy between the key logistics hubs of China, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan, thereby expanding transport infrastructure capacity and increasing traffic volumes along the route.
 

Another key highlight of the visit was a meeting with Vugar Mirzazada, Deputy Head of the Azerbaijan Transport and Communication Holding (AZCON). The parties reviewed further cooperation and the creation of a unified cargo flow management system. Special attention was paid to the synchronous development of the two countries' logistics infrastructure, expanding port capacities, and developing the fleet. They also discussed the necessity of dredging operations in port waters to enable the accommodation of large-tonnage vessels.

Additionally, a meeting was held with Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of CJSC "Azerbaijan Railways" (ADY). The sides discussed the current state and future prospects of their strategic partnership in rail transport, as well as joint measures to attract additional cargo flows to the TITR.

The working visit confirmed the strong interest of both Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in deepening cooperation and accelerating the development of joint logistics infrastructure.
 

Reference: In the first 7 months of 2026, transit traffic volume along the TITR reached 36,000 TEU (350 container trains). Compared to the same period in 2025, container transport volume grew by 50%, and the number of container trains increased by 82%. During the first 7 months of 2025, traffic stood at 24,000 TEU and 192 container trains.
