Marat Shakenov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC KTZ, participated in the Plenary Session of the 6th Meeting of Heads of Railway Administrations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States.
During his speech, the speaker emphasized that the SCO meeting format is a valuable platform for analyzing joint work and planning new steps to strengthen transport links across the Eurasian region. The development of rail transportation remains a key priority of Kazakhstan's transport policy, aimed at unlocking the country's transit and transport potential.
Marat Shakenov presented the meeting participants with data on the company's record-breaking freight volumes: by the end of 2025, a historic high of 320 million tons will be reached, representing a 5.5% increase over 2024 figures.
International freight volume amounted to 143 million tonnes, more than 80% (115.3 million tonnes) of which came from SCO countries, representing a 6% increase year-on-year. In the first two months of this year, freight volume has already reached 19.8 million tonnes, a 10% increase compared to the same period last year.
"This result is the result of coordinated collaboration with the railways of China, Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan, both bilaterally and multilaterally," he noted.
At the conclusion of the Plenary Session, a Protocol was signed, confirming the parties' intentions to further integrate logistics systems and develop international transport corridors.
Cooperation within the SCO remains a strategic vector for Kazakhstan, strengthening the country's role as a key link in the global logistics route system.
