Kazakh and Uzbek railway workers exchanged experience in continuous welded rail maintenance
26-06-2026
Demonstration track works were carried out at the Arys Track Distance of the "Shymkent Mainline Network Branch" of NC KTZ JSC. These works showcased modern technologies for railway track maintenance and repair as part of a professional experience exchange program between NC KTZ JSC and O'zbekiston Temir Yo'llari JSC.
Representatives from both railway administrations shared their experience in continuous welded rail maintenance and the implementation of technical solutions aimed at increasing the reliability and safety of railway infrastructure.
At the Shagyr station, during a six-hour technological window, workers installed an R65 expansion joint and a glued-insulated rail joint, followed by welding the rail string to the full block length. The operations were carried out using a mobile rail-welding machine (PRSM) and an MPT-4 track maintenance vehicle.
Additionally, during a similar technological window on the Shengheldy – Zhylga section (even track, 3306 km, picket 8), workers installed a glued-insulated rail joint and subsequently welded the rail string to the full block length using aluminothermic welding.
The following works were completed during the operations:
Expansion joints compensate for the longitudinal displacements of rail strings caused by temperature fluctuations and dynamic loads from rolling stock.
The completed works aim to reduce the risk of track deformation, ensure smoother train movement, and improve the interaction within the "track – rolling stock" system, thereby increasing infrastructure reliability and train traffic safety.
