Hump yard interlocking system being modernized at Karaganda-Sortirovochnaya
18-09-2026
The hump yard microprocessor complex at Karaganda-Sortirovochnaya station is currently being modernized and replaced with an automatic microprocessor-based interlocking system.
As part of the project, specialists from the Trunk-Line Network Directorate reviewed the progress of the operations at the hump yard.
The new system will automate switch control during car humping operations.
The system identifies and sequentially sets routes for cuts of cars in accordance with a preset program. This reduces manual operations and enhances the efficiency of monitoring the train shunting process.
The work is progressing according to the approved schedule. To date, 15 retarders and 10 switches have been replaced.
Upon completion of the project, Karaganda-Sortirovochnaya will become the only hump yard on the KTZ trunk-line network equipped with a fully automated train shunting system.
Additionally, for the first time at KTZ hump yards, bar blocking devices are planned to be installed as part of the automatic hump interlocking system. These devices are designed to stop and secure the railcars.
The modernization project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027.
