31-08-2026
The reconstruction of five railway stations has been completed across three regions of Kazakhstan—namely the Abai, Karaganda, and Aktobe regions. The upgraded stations of Ushbiik, Shar, Zharma, Zharyk, and Alga have officially reopened to passengers. These facilities were modernized as part of the country’s national railway station renewal program, which is being implemented under the instruction of the Head of State.
In the Abai region, the railway stations of Ushbiik, Shar, and Zharma have been successfully reconstructed.
Ushbiik station was built in 1980. The reconstruction included upgrading the building, engineering networks, and the passenger platform, as well as landscaping the surrounding area. Ten passenger trains pass through the station, connecting the region with Semey, Kyzylorda, Almaty, Oskemen, Aktogay, Shu, Taraz, Shymkent, Turkistan, Pavlodar, and Karaganda, as well as with Russia.
Shar station has been operating since 1982. Following the reconstruction, the station building and adjacent infrastructure were fully updated. The station handles an average daily passenger traffic of about 150 people. Eighteen passenger trains pass through the station, providing transport links to major cities across Kazakhstan and Russia.
Zharma station was built in 1996. The reconstruction project updated the building, engineering systems, and passenger infrastructure. Twelve passenger trains pass through the station.
In the Karaganda region, the Zharyk station railway building, originally constructed in 1936, has reopened after reconstruction. The single-story facility, spanning 484 square meters, has been completely renovated. The project included repairing the roof and facade, modernizing engineering systems, reconstructing the passenger platform, landscaping the surrounding area, and installing new furniture and equipment.
The station's facade was given a modern finish, while durable and fire-resistant materials were used for the interior. Additional evacuation routes were established, and fire doors were installed.
Zharyk station serves an average of 142 passengers daily. Thirty passenger trains pass through the station, connecting it with Astana, Karaganda, Kostanay, Almaty, Shymkent, Turkistan, Kyzylorda, Zhezkazgan, Semey, and other cities across the country.
In the Aktobe region, the reconstruction of the Alga station railway building, originally built in 1935, has been completed. The single-story facility covers an area of 379 square meters. The project included upgrading the facade, interior spaces, and engineering systems, as well as landscaping the surrounding area. Domestically produced Kazakhstani materials were used throughout the reconstruction.
Fourteen passenger trains pass through the station, connecting Alga with Aktobe, Almaty, Astana, Mangystau, Beyneu, Uralsk, Taraz, Shymkent, Turkistan, Shu, and Kyzylorda.
The reconstruction of these five stations will improve the quality of passenger service and create more comfortable and safe conditions for both passengers and railway workers.
The projects were funded by JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" using its own resources, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Transport, JSC "Samruk-Kazyna", and the akimats of the respective regions.
