Since the beginning of 2026, more than 99,000 passengers have used rail transport between Kazakhstan and Russia. By the end of 2025, passenger traffic in this direction totaled around 300,000 people.
Today, 8 international passenger routes operate between the two countries, connecting major cities in Kazakhstan with regions of the Russian Federation.
Current routes:
The most popular routes among passengers remain Astana — Omsk, Almaty — Novosibirsk, Almaty — Kazan, and Karaganda — Moscow.
New domestically produced carriages from the RWS Wagon plant are already operating on several international routes. Their launch has enhanced comfort levels, improved service quality, and created more modern conditions for long-distance passengers.
The new passenger carriages are equipped with air conditioning systems, eco-toilets (biotoilets), modern berths, USB ports, improved soundproofing, video surveillance systems, as well as compartments for passengers with reduced mobility.
