Scheduled railway repairs have begun in Kazakhstan

Annual seasonal track repair works have started on the network of NC KTZ JSC. This year, 1,480 kilometers of the railway track will be modernized by all types of repairs. Of these, 512.7 kilometers will be overhauled. 

Track repairs are being carried out in all regions of the country, in accordance with the schedule. Today, March 17, major work began within the boundaries of the Almaty, Zhambyl departments of the railway on the Chilbastau - Kopa, Sholdala - Kumshagal - Taraz sections. On March 19, the Mangystau department of the main network plans to begin repairs on the Sai-Otes - Rzd.7 section. In a week, Atyrau railway workers will begin updating the infrastructure on the Rzd.4 - Rzd.5 - Ganyushkino section.

In addition to the major upgrade, the railway workers will carry out enhanced medium and medium track repairs. They will replace turnouts. They will perform a continuous replacement of rail supports, track gauge, and other activities. Track work is carried out using special equipment (Duomatic, Unimat MF, tamping and straightening machines, rail grinding trains, etc.).

The infrastructure is being upgraded to improve the safety of train traffic. Growing volumes of freight traffic are creating a serious load on the main network. As part of the implementation of the tasks set by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to modernize the railway infrastructure, KTZ will repair 11 thousand kilometers of railways by 2029. To date, more than 2,800 kilometers of railway have been modernized out of the planned volume (in 2023 - 1,443 km; in 2024 - 1,430 km).
