Railwaymen of Kazakhstan and China discussed issues of increasing freight traffic

The management of NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC met with the Chairman of the Management Board of Urumqi Railway LLC, Mr. Guo Jian. 

The parties summed up the results of the railways' work in 2024. The volume of transportation between Kazakhstan and China amounted to a record 32 million tons, an increase of 13% compared to last year.

During the negotiations, the Kazakhstan’s side announced the early completion this year of the construction of second tracks on the Dostyk-Moiynty section and a railway line bypassing Almaty, which will significantly increase the capacity in the direction of China.

The parties agreed to double the number of trains from Kazakhstan to China via the Altynkol-Khorgos border crossing from 8 to 15 trains per day from March 1 this year, and via the Dostyk-Alashankou border crossing from 14 to 28 trains per day from July 1 this year.

The approved joint plans for 2025 will significantly increase export potential and open up additional opportunities for domestic producers.
