On August 26, more than 130 passengers embarked on a journey on the Keruen Express tourist train along the Almaty–Turkestan–Samarkand–Bukhara–Tashkent–Almaty route, launched by JSC Passenger Transportation. The route connects Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, offering tourists a unique opportunity to visit the historical and cultural landmarks of both countries. The tour lasts six days, from August 26 to 31, 2025.
"A special highlight of the trip was the tour operator's initiative, which allowed 25 children from the Almaty Center for Supporting Children in Difficult Situations to travel free of charge. This is an opportunity for the children to explore new cities and gain a better understanding of the region's cultural heritage," noted Anuar Akhmetzhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC KTZ.
The current train is the seventh tourist train operating between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. It consists of five modern carriages: four compartment carriages and one dining car. The domestically produced carriages are equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable journey, and the interior is decorated in a traditional Kazakh style with elements of Kazakh ornamentation.
The route covers the region's iconic cultural and historical centers. The program includes visits to major architectural and historical monuments, including the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi Mausoleum and the Otyrar settlement in Turkestan, the Amir Timur Mausoleum and Registan Square in Samarkand, the Ark Fortress and Lyabi-Khauz Square in Bukhara, the Hazrati Imam Memorial Complex and the Tole Bi Mausoleum in Tashkent, and more.
The tour price includes travel on the tourist train, a guided tour with professional guides, entrance tickets, and transfers organized by tour operators.
The launch of the Keruen Express is an important step in the development of rail tourism, strengthening cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and promoting the region's historical heritage.
