KTZ and Russian Railways strengthen strategic partnership

On July 21, a working meeting between the Chairman of the Management Board of NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC Talgat Aldybergenov and the General Director - Chairman of the Management  Board of JSC Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov took place in Moscow.

The heads of the companies confirmed the course towards strengthening the strategic partnership and discussed the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed in November 2024 in Astana.


As a result of the negotiations, the Parties signed a Protocol providing for the improvement of work at the Interstate Junction Points:

- change in the direction of car flows
- automation of the technology for receiving/delivering trains
- extension of the warranty legs for servicing cars

This will allow in the second half of this year to increase by 30% the number of trains transferred through the interstate junction points from 65 to 85 pairs of trains per day. An agreement was reached on synchronizing the development of the Interstate Junction Points for 2026-2027.

The Parties also considered issues on:

- interaction of increasing the volume of transportation on the eastern branch of the North-South ITC;
- integration of information systems within the framework of the ASOUP-2 project and automation of railway transit for all transit cargo in the China-Europe communication with the registration of a transit declaration in automatic mode and its compatibility with the information systems of Russian and Belarusian railways.
- a decision was made to consider at a meeting of the Joint Working Group a further increase in the volume of transportation and acceptance/delivery of trains for 2026.

 

The Kazakh side noted that this year the construction of major infrastructure projects is being completed: Dostyk-Moiynty, the Almaty hub bypass railway and the modernization of more than 3 thousand km of existing lines, which will significantly increase the capacity of the roads of JSC NC KTZ.

Chairman of the Management  Board of NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC Talgat Aldybergenov: "I am confident that our constructive cooperation, including within the framework of the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Agreement and joint work within the framework of the IGSP, will not only ensure sustainable growth in transportation volumes and increase the exchange of trains by 30% to 85 pairs per day compared to the first half of 2025. We are also actively implementing large-scale infrastructure projects, digitalization and automation of rail transportation, including the automatic registration of transit declarations, which creates a solid foundation for transparency, further growth and integration of our transport information systems." Thus, according to the results of 6 months of this year, the volume amounted to more than 45 million tons, which is 4.1% higher than the level of the same period last year. Container transit amounted to 273.3 thousand TEU and showed an increase of 18% compared to 2024.
