KTZ ensures stable coal supplies

KTZ conducts daily monitoring of coal shipments to combined heat and power plants (CHPs) and for municipal and public utilities across the country. Since the start of the heating season (May–September 2025), over 28.4 million tons of coal have been transported by rail, 1.3 million tons (5%) more than in the same period last year. CHPs delivered 26.1 million tons (an increase of 7%, or 1.7 million tons), and municipal and public utilities delivered over 2.3 million tons.

Coal stockpiles at energy companies exceed regulatory limits and total 5.2 million tons (an increase of 3% compared to 2024 levels).

More than 18,000 gondola cars of JSC Kaztemirtrans are used for coal transportation (out of a total of over 29,000 rolling stock units in operation). During peak periods, the number of cars in use reaches 20,000.

KTZ notes that the uniformity of coal supplies is a key factor in ensuring a stable heating season.

Sharp surges in shipment volumes during peak periods create additional strain on the transport infrastructure. To maintain smooth transportation, advance requests from coal companies and regional operators are necessary. In this regard, regional akimats (governors' offices) are advised to strengthen coordination with coal companies and ensure early fuel purchases by residents, without waiting for temperatures to drop.

Coal transportation is under the special control of KTZ management. The company continues to take measures to ensure smooth and uninterrupted supplies of energy fuel to all regions of the country.
