26-11-2025
During their visit to Baku, the management of NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC participated in a plenary meeting of the Council on Railway Transport of the Commonwealth of Independent States, where they discussed the industry's current status and development prospects, cooperation, increasing freight volumes, and infrastructure modernization.
Following the meeting, KTZ Chairman of the Management Board Talgat Aldybergenov commented to Azerbaijani media on the development of existing rail service between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. He noted that over the past four years, the volume of freight loaded to and from Azerbaijan via Kazakhstan's railway network has increased more than sevenfold. This year, this figure amounted to approximately 4.1 million tons over the first 10 months.
Transit is a particular driver: 292 container trains were sent from China via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, a 12% increase compared to last year. Furthermore, thanks to a record harvest in Kazakhstan, KTZ increased grain shipments to Azerbaijan 25-fold, already transporting 600,000 tons. This solid foundation allows the company to further maximize the pace of cooperation.
At the same time, KTZ management participated in a meeting of the heads of railway administrations of the CIS and Baltic countries, as well as a meeting of UTLC ERA shareholders, where the company's strategic development vectors were discussed. The focus was on strengthening the competitiveness of the China-Europe-China route, expanding the share of container shipping, and implementing integrated multimodal solutions within the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor.
The parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening their partnership, enhancing coordination, and jointly implementing initiatives aimed at increasing the efficiency and attractiveness of the Eurasian route. These measures will further strengthen UTLC ERA's position as a key player in the transit market between Asia and Europe.
