KTZ announced the expected increase in traffic thanks to the implementation of the Dostyk-Moiynty project

A media meeting with Vadim Kopylov, Director of the Integrated Planning Directorate, a branch of NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC, was held on the Burabay Express electric train.

The speaker presented information on the implementation of a major infrastructure project—the construction of second tracks on the 836-km Dostyk-Moiynty section. The project, which began in November 2022, will increase the line's capacity from 12 to 60 pairs of trains per day.

In 2024, despite construction work, traffic from China reached a record high of 32 million tons, 4.5 times higher than the level of the previous decade. Container transit is also showing steady growth: over the past 10 years, the China–EU–China route has increased 12-fold, while the Trans-Caspian route (TITR) has increased 21-fold. The volume of shipments between Kazakhstan and China in the first eight months of 2025 increased by 10% compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 23.2 million tons.

With the addition of a second track on the Dostyk–Moiynty section, shipments from China could reach 35 million tons by 2025, including exports of ore, metals, and food, as well as transit cargo along the East–West and East–Central Asia routes. The project's integration with Caspian ports and the TITR corridor will strengthen Kazakhstan's position as a key Eurasian transport and logistics hub.
 

KTZ is also actively developing its infrastructure. The Zhetysu terminal, built in just 88 days and with a capacity of 115,000 TEUs per year, has been commissioned in Almaty. The first phase of a container hub with a capacity of 240,000 TEUs has been launched at the port of Aktau. The international network is expanding with terminals in China, Belarus, Russia, and the Caspian Sea, with plans for new facilities in Azerbaijan, Hungary, Romania, and Georgia.
