KTZ and UTY Strengthen Coordination: Prompt Measures Taken on Congested Routes

A working meeting was held between delegations from NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC , led by Managing Director for Production Affairs B. Urynbassarov, and Uzbekistan Railways JSC, led by First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board H. Rakhmetov.

The meeting was held in an atmosphere of constructive dialogue and mutual understanding, and an in-depth analysis of the current situation at the intersection of the two countries' railway systems was conducted. Over the course of four days, the delegations discussed in detail issues related to increased congestion on certain routes and stations of Uzbekistan Railways JSC
 

During the meeting, the achieved results in transportation activities for the first 10 months of 2025 were noted: the volume of freight transported between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan amounted to 22.9 million tons, an increase of 21% compared to the same period last year.

The start of the mass transit season has caused difficulties for NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC , with a backlog of over 8,000 railcars in the direction of the Saryagash interstate connecting point.

The Uzbek side noted a maximum increase in the railcar fleet, exceeding the standard by 6,000 railcars. This includes 14 stations where difficulties are being encountered due to the large backlog of railcars.

To achieve increased train exchange rates, the Uzbek side proposed:

- maintaining the quantity and type of cargo carried by destination;
- rerouting car traffic from the Saryagash ICP to the Oasis ICP.

Furthermore, following the meeting, a new railway line was commissioned; construction began at the Ok Kuprik station in early November of this year.

The opening ceremony of the one-kilometer railway line was attended by B. Urynbassarov, Managing Director for Production of NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC , A. Kamiljanov, Deputy Chairman of UTY, S. Norkobilov, Chairman of JSC Temiryulinfratuzilma, as well as department heads, branch management, and station management of the Tashkent Railways Department.

The main event of this new phase was the arrival of the first freight train from Kazakhstan on the newly opened line. This event underscores the importance of developing international cooperation and integrating the railway networks of the two countries.

This year, to increase the capacity to receive imported cargo from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan Railways JSC completed construction and commissioned seven additional tracks at stations in the Tashkent railway hub.

The parties also agreed to provide preliminary information on cargo imported into the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan. During the meeting, test messages were exchanged for analysis, and a data exchange format was agreed upon.

It was decided to fully debug the data within a month and launch the exchange of electronic messages for transit declarations, followed by a transition to full commercial operation.

The parties also agreed to strengthen cooperation aimed at leveraging the existing logistics capabilities of the two countries.
