KTZ and Russian Railways have identified priority areas of strategic cooperation

The 16th meeting of the joint working group on strategic cooperation between NC KTZ JSC and JSC Russian Railways was held in Vladivostok (Russian Federation). 

The parties discussed issues within the framework of bilateral cooperation in the field of railway transport, including the situation at junctions and the organization of the work of locomotives and locomotive crews, increasing the volume of transportation under electronic consignment notes.

The volume of transportation between Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation for 8 months of 2025 amounted to 58.3 million tons, an increase of 3.2% or 1.8 million tons compared to the same period last year, including export cargo flow from Kazakhstan to/via Russia amounted to 35.3 million tons, an increase of 6.8% or 2.2 million tons.

In particular, coal exports from Kazakhstan via the Russian Federation amounted to 8 million tons and increased by 36.4% or 2.1 million tons, grain via the Russian Federation amounted to 1.5 million tons with an increase of 5.3 times or 1.2 million tons.

The heads of the delegation of the railways of the two countries approved the Action Plan to improve the efficiency of interstate junction points (IGSP) for 2026-2030. The plan sets out joint steps and deadlines for the prompt development of junctions, taking into account the increase in freight traffic.

The parties also discussed the texts of the Agreements on the development of IGSP until 2030 and the development of the eastern route of the North-South ITC, planned for signing by the end of this year.

Following the meeting, a protocol was signed. The parties agreed to hold the next meeting of the working group on strategic cooperation in Kazakhstan in the first half of 2026.
