06-03-2025
A little more than a year has passed since the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the opening ceremony of the logistics center of Kazakhstan in the city of Xi'an, Shaanxi Province in northwestern China, via teleconference. Noting the importance of creating the center for the industry and for Kazakh-Chinese relations in general, the Head of State launched the operation of the facility.
The new Kazakh-Chinese terminal in Xi'an has shown significant results since its launch. Today, the terminal has a capacity of 133,000 TEU per year. Over the past year, the volume of transit traffic through this center exceeded 276,000 thousand tons. The volume of traffic is planned for 2025 at 456,000 tons. In total, more than five thousand trains were sent from Xi'an Dry Port in 2024 in the China-Europe direction, which became a historical record. This is 25% of all shipments on this route.
Thanks to the work of the joint cargo terminal in Xi'an, as a key hub on the TMTR route, the volume of transportation last year increased 33 times.
In general, rail freight transportation between Kazakhstan and China demonstrates annual growth. And the joint project - the Kazakhstan-China terminal in the dry port of Xi'an, which consolidates up to 40% of all container trains going in the direction of Kazakhstan, plays an important role in increasing cargo volumes.
