Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Russian Railways Sign Agreement on Developing Interstate Crossing Points

During the official visit of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Russian Federation, an agreement was signed between Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Russian Railways on the development of interstate crossing points until 2030.

The document provides for joint work to modernize border infrastructure and increase the capacity of railway crossings to accommodate growing freight traffic.

The agreement was signed by Talgat Aldybergenov, Chairman of the Management  Board of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Oleg Belozerov, CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Russian Railways.

Over the years of independence, over 3 billion tons of freight have been transported through nine interstate crossing points between Kazakhstan and Russia.

In the first 10 months of 2025, the volume of freight traffic between the two countries amounted to 71.6 million tons, 5% higher than the previous year.

Kazakhstan and Russia are implementing joint projects to develop railway infrastructure. This year, construction of a second track on the Dostyk-Moiynty section was completed, significantly increasing the capacity of the eastern railway.

Digital technologies are being actively implemented. In October 2025, the share of shipments using legally binding electronic consignment notes reached 84%, and this figure is planned to increase to 90% by 2026.
