Kazakhstan and Chinese railway workers discussed growth in freight traffic

On February 24, 2025, in Beijing, the management of NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC met with the head of China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., Mr. Guo Zhuxue. 

The parties summed up the results of the railways’ work in 2024. The volume of transportation between Kazakhstan and China amounted to a record 32 million tons, an increase of 13% compared to last year. In January 2025, the increase was 18%.

Particular attention was paid to the development of the TITR, the volume of transportation on which increased 33 times last year. A new impetus to the development of the route will be given by the accession of Chinese railways to ‘MIDDLE CORRIDOR MULTIMODAL Ltd.’ in March of this year (a joint venture of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgian Railways).

Following the meeting, joint plans for 2025 were approved, responsible executors were identified and deadlines for the implementation of measures were set. Thus, from March 1 of this year, it was agreed to increase the delivery of trains from Kazakhstan to China through the Altynkol-Khorgos border crossing, from 8 to 15 trains per day, and from July 1 of this year through the Dostyk-Alashankou border crossing, from 14 to 28 trains per day. This increase will significantly increase export potential and open up additional opportunities for domestic producers.
