29-09-2025
The 34th meeting of the Joint Commissions of the Border Railways of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China was held in Almaty. The meeting summarized the results of freight and container traffic between Kazakhstan and China. In the first eight months of 2025, traffic volumes totaled 23.2 million tons, a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2024. By the end of this year, the parties agreed to maintain traffic volumes at 35 million tons, 3.6 million tons more than last year. Preliminary forecast traffic volumes for 2026 were also discussed.
Special attention was paid to increasing the export of Kazakh products. Measures were agreed to expand the transportation of grain cargoes in grain trucks, covered wagons, and containers, as well as vegetable oil in flexitank containers, while maintaining the required loading conditions.
The parties agreed to develop cooperation in implementing paperless technologies for processing shipping documents, exchanging information at junction stations, and expediting customs procedures.
Furthermore, an agreement was reached to organize, starting in December 2025, the transfer of shift workers between border stations in Kazakhstan and China to receive and transfer trains, railcars, and cargo in the adjacent territory. This measure will improve the efficiency of the shipping process and reduce train processing time.
Following the meeting, a corresponding protocol was signed.
