In Kazakhstan, second tracks are being prepared for commissioning on the 836-kilometer Dostyk-Moiynty railway section.
The infrastructure project is being implemented on the instructions of the Head of State, with the support of the government, Samruk-Kazyna, regional akimats and is very important for the country's transport and transit potential. The railway connects Kazakhstan with China through strong trade ties. Its modernization will increase cargo transportation in this direction and improve its quality. It is expected that the capacity of the section will increase fivefold - from 12 to 60 pairs of trains per day.
Construction and installation work on the section began in early 2023. In order to increase the capacity of the section, a total of about 8.2 million cubic meters of earth were filled in, more than 800 kilometers of railway track were laid, taking into account the development and modernization of 32 stations, and 92 bridges were built. The power supply and communication systems were modernized. A domestic train traffic control system was introduced.
During the construction, specialists overcame a number of difficulties associated with the difficult terrain. In order to lay the second track, drilling and blasting operations were carried out in some areas to loosen the rocks. The large-scale construction gave an additional impetus to the development of domestic enterprises, which acquired unique experience, increased technical capacities, improved the qualifications of specialists, and increased production volumes. More than 100 thousand tons of rails and about 1.5 million reinforced concrete sleepers were purchased from Kazakhstani plants. The share of Kazakhstani content in the construction was 85%.
Considering the strategic importance of the project and the high pace of construction and installation work, traffic on the second tracks will be launched in June. This is two years ahead of the standard construction deadline.
