Bypass railway to relieve Almaty hub by 40%

The construction of a 75 km long railway line bypassing Almaty station is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. The bypass will relieve the Almaty hub by 40% and reduce cargo delivery time.

Today, the Almaty railway hub, located at the intersection of key transport corridors, is under constant load. The implementation of the project will allow switching freight traffic in all types of communications to the new Zhetygen - Kazybek bek railway line, including transit freight traffic that passes through Almaty-1 station.
 


To date, work on the construction of the roadbed for the new track has been completed by 96%. Over 6 million cubic meters of soil were excavated using machines and mechanisms. Over 30 km of rail and sleeper grid have been laid on the prepared base. artificial structures are being built. 17 of the 19 bridges planned by the project have already been built. The installation of 49 pipes out of 55 has been completed. Work is underway to install electrical equipment, install central blocking systems, etc.


The construction of the railway has a huge multiplier effect on related areas. The share of local content is 85%. KTZ purchased 228 thousand sleepers and 16 thousand tons of rails from Kazakhstani factories. The supply of inert materials, sand and crushed stone is carried out by local companies. All construction and installation work is carried out by domestic contractors.
