Baggage transportation rules on passenger trains: what is important to know

Carriage of cargo baggage on trains is not only a convenient, but also a safe way to deliver things. To ensure a comfortable journey, passengers must comply with the established weight and size standards for carry-on baggage. In case these parameters are exceeded, JSC Passenger Transportation offers to use a special baggage transportation service.

According to the order of the authorized body, standards have been established for the free carriage of carry-on baggage on passenger trains. In particular, for trains formed from Tulpar-Talgo cars, free carriage of carry-on baggage weighing up to 25 kilograms and with dimensions of no more than 150 centimeters in the sum of three dimensions is allowed. For other cars - up to 35 kilograms and no more than 200 centimeters in the sum of three dimensions.

Passengers are also allowed to transport unassembled and packed baby strollers, kayaks, and bicycles without a motor if their dimensions fit in the places intended for hand luggage. Passengers with disabilities may additionally transport technical aids and special means of transportation intended for personal use free of charge.

Placing hand luggage on passenger seats, in aisles, corridors, and vestibules is strictly prohibited. In case of exceeding the established parameters, passengers must arrange for the transportation of excess hand luggage, baggage, or oversized baggage in the baggage compartment of the railway station. This service is provided on the following routes:

No. 33/34 "Aktobe - Almaty", No. 41/42 "Almaty - Atyrau", No. 77/78 "Almaty - Mangyshlak", No. 691/692 "Aktobe - Atyrau", No. 9/10 "Almaty - Astana". The cost depends on the distance of the trip and is calculated in accordance with the current rules.

For example, the cost of transporting baggage and oversized baggage for individuals and legal entities on popular routes is set at the following rates per 1 kg:

• Almaty - Mangyshlak: baggage - 57 tenge, oversized baggage - 114 tenge;
• Almaty - Astana: baggage - 39 tenge, oversized baggage - 94 tenge;
• Shymkent – Almaty: baggage – 27 tenge, oversized baggage – 57 tenge.
It is important to note that sending parcels through conductors is illegal and entails administrative liability, including dismissal of the employee.
