Wheel-rail lubrication - a factor in traffic safety

As part of the program to ensure sustainable interaction of the wheel with the rails, JSC NC KTZ has developed a concept aimed at improving the technology of lubrication of the wheel-rail contact zone for the period from 2025 to 2030.
The main goal of the concept is to increase the efficiency of lubrication technology.
- Today, more than 2,600 km of curves with a radius of up to 1,200 m are operated on the main line of JSC NC KTZ. Over the past three years, the replacement of worn rails amounted to more than 300 km, which indicates a significant level of wear, - noted Aslan Maratov, Chief Manager of the Information and Analytical Department of the Technical Center of KTZ.
The new concept will help solve several problems at once - from the formation and development of a control and monitoring system for lubrication technology of the wheel-rail contact zone to increasing the efficiency of lubrication technology.
The introduction of innovative solutions, such as friction modifiers and activators, as well as complex methods for treating the rail running surface, will improve the quality of lubrication and reduce operating costs.
The introduction of these solutions will not only improve the quality of transport services, but also increase the safety and reliability of the transport system of Kazakhstan as a whole.
