Unknown persons stole track superstructure materials, which could have led to a train derailment
04-11-2024
On November 3, 2024, on the Otar-Chilbastau section, railway workers discovered the theft of track superstructure materials of the SKL-14 fastening (screws, angle guides, elastic clamps). According to preliminary estimates, unknown persons stole 2,745 pieces. This could have led to a large-scale train derailment and train derailment.
Repair work was promptly carried out on this section. Railway workers took measures to ensure the safety of train traffic. Freight trains with a speed of no more than 25 km/h were the first to pass after repair work.
Since the beginning of the year, this is the second case of theft of track superstructure materials on this section; there are about 10 such cases in the country. The materials have been sent to law enforcement agencies, where a criminal case has been opened. Illegal interference by outsiders in the operation of the railway is one of the reasons for the derailment of cars.
The consequences of the theft of elements of the upper structure of the railway track pose a direct threat to the safety of passenger and freight transportation, and after such cases, sections are closed for repairs, which disrupts the rhythm of transportation work, the train schedule.
KTZ announced gratitude to the vigilant railway workers who noticed the theft on the track in time, which allowed to avoid an emergency.
