Unattended cattle threaten train safety

14-11-2024

Since the beginning of the current year, train drivers have applied 1,114 emergency brakes due to cattle running onto the tracks. In 953 cases, it was not possible to prevent collisions with animals. All this led to forced repairs of locomotives and delays in the travel of passenger and freight trains.

Cattle that ended up on the tracks are also a potential threat to traffic safety. Railway workers are holding talks with residents of populated areas about the possible consequences of trains running over animals. Since the beginning of the year, 1,362 meetings and 131 speeches on radio and television have been organized. To prevent cattle from running onto the tracks, fencing is being built in potentially dangerous areas. Despite preventive measures and the ban established by the Model Rules for the Grazing of Farm Animals, unsupervised grazing of farm animals continues.

Railway workers are sounding the alarm and reminding that the railway is a high-risk zone, and animals that end up on the tracks can lead to serious consequences.
