Train drivers were forced to stop trains over 4.6 thousand times to prevent collisions
09-08-2024
KTZ drivers applied over 4.6 thousand emergency brakes to prevent collisions with people, livestock and vehicles in the first six months of this year. In over 80% of cases, collisions were avoided thanks to the professional actions of locomotive crews. Most emergency braking was caused by livestock going onto the tracks. Railway workers note the low level of discipline of car drivers, who commit a large number of traffic violations when crossing railway tracks. At railway crossings, 59 forced stops were recorded in the first half of the year, of which collisions were prevented in 43 cases. KTZ reminds that a train driver cannot go around a car at a railway crossing and stop the rolling stock in a short time. The braking distance of a train even at minimum speed reaches up to 1000 m.
Failure of strangers and drivers to comply with the rules of conduct on the railway leads to train delays, damage to the locomotive, railway infrastructure, and loss of cargo. It is necessary to strictly observe safety rules on the railway.
