Representatives of KTZ took part in the grain forum

06-12-2024

Since the beginning of the marketing year (from September to November 2024), 3.7 million tons of the new crop have been transported, which is 45% more than in the same period last year. The volume of transportation within the country increased by 29%, to 800 thousand tons, exports grew by 51%, to 2.9 million tons. Such data were announced at the grain forum by Deputy Director of the branch of JSC NC KTZ - "Integrated Planning Directorate" Gani Yesenbayev.

1.6 million tons were transported to the countries of Central Asia, which is 35% more than last year. Key checkpoints such as Oasis, Bolashak and Saryagash have sufficient reserves for transportation. 356 thousand tons were transported to Iran (via the port of Aktau), which is 25 times more than last year.

Despite the positive trends, there is a slight decrease in transportation in the direction of China. The reason is the overload of inspection sites on the Chinese side, as well as restrictions on the acceptance of Kazakh grain associated with additional quality checks.

"To resolve problems with Chinese customs authorities, appeals were sent to the Ministries of Transport, Agriculture, Finance, as well as the State Revenue and State Inspection Committees, the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs and other interested organizations. In general, it should be noted that over 3 years there has been a 5-fold increase in grain transportation to China. The entire infrastructure for unloading grain cargo on the Chinese side is operating at its limit and was not designed for a large volume from Kazakhstan," said Gani Yesenbayev.

To optimize the process, KTZ is actively regulating the loading of grain carriers, while ensuring the smooth movement of both passenger and freight trains. In regions where grain is actively shipped, special grain groups operate in the central office of KTZ - Headquarters, which monitor the transportation situation on a daily basis.

In order to improve logistics and increase the efficiency of transportation, the locomotive fleet of KTZ-Freight Transportation LLC was significantly updated. In 2024, 183 locomotives were purchased, including 20 shunting units, which are actively used to organize work at grain sowing stations. In the autumn, the number of shunting locomotives was additionally increased at key stations such as Yesil, Tobol, Kushmurun and Kostanay. Also, to ensure uninterrupted operation, additional locomotives from other parts of the country were transferred to the Kostanay region.

The grain carrier fleet consists of more than 12,600 units. In November, more than 1,000 grain carriers from Russia were attracted for export to Russia and the Baltic countries, which were actively used to transport grain to ports and markets in neighboring countries. To solve the problem of seasonal fluctuations in demand for grain carriers, it is proposed to develop comprehensive measures aimed at the rational use of the wagon fleet throughout the year. Government agencies, KTZ, shippers and industry associations can play an important role in this process.

Taking into account the growth of export deliveries and seasonal fluctuations in demand for grain carriers, KTZ continues to develop its railway infrastructure, improving both technical capabilities and logistics of grain transportation.
