Representatives of the Commonwealth carload economy will discuss current issues

The 77th meeting of the Carriage Industry Commission of the Council on Railway Transport of the Commonwealth member states began in Astana. The event is attended by members of the Carriage Commission of the railway administrations of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Estonia, Latvia, representatives of the Directorate of the Council for Railway Transport of the CIS, research organizations, car-building and car-repair enterprises, owners of rolling stock and operators railway transport.


Over the course of three days, the Commission will discuss issues related to the operation of freight cars on the railways of the Commonwealth. 53 issues were put on the agenda. The main part concerns changes in technical conditions for new freight cars and major repairs with extension of the useful life of modernized cars. The meeting participants will make changes to the unified technical documentation regulating the operation of freight cars in international traffic.


The meeting will also consider general issues of coordination of the Commonwealth railway administrations in organizing international cargo transportation and joint use of the freight wagon fleet.
 

As of January 1, 2024, the total fleet of freight cars in the Commonwealth countries is more than 1.7 million units, including over 1.3 million cars belonging to Russia, more than 130 thousand from Kazakhstan, over 45 thousand from Belarus and other countries.
