23-08-2024

At a meeting organized by the branch of NC KTZ JSC - Integrated Planning  Directorate and representatives of the Azerbaijan Railways, the possibilities of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route after modernization were presented. The event was attended by Kazakhstani shippers, representatives of industry associations, and the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs.

After modernization, the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route increased 5 times: from 1 to 5 million tons of cargo per year. Electrification of the railway has been fully completed. The reconstruction of the Akhalkalaki station has been carried out. The project was implemented at the initiative of Azerbaijan to increase transit by reducing the cost of freight transportation along the Middle Corridor. The route will speed up the delivery of goods between Asia and Europe, bypassing the Black Sea ports, and will be more economical in comparison with sea and road transport.

By the end of the year, a joint venture with the participation of the Georgian and Azerbaijani sides will be launched, which will work on the formation of a tariff policy and conditions for transportation along the route.

At the meeting, the participants agreed to exchange additional information taking into account the comments voiced by Kazakhstani railway workers and shippers, as well as to continue the practice of such meetings.

The dynamics of transportation between the railways of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan for 7 months of this year shows an increase of 37%, to 3.2 million tons. 1.9 million tons were transported along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), which is 23% higher than the same indicator last year.
