The large-scale track works are underway on the KTZ network. In 2024, it is planned to repair over 1400 km of the railway. The same large amount of work was carried out last year, which is twice the level of 2022.
The repair campaign, which started in March, covers all regions. At the same time, more than 570 km of railway will be completely renovated with complete replacement of the rail and sleeper grid.
The first to begin major repairs were railway workers in the south and west of the country. Also, major repairs will cover 12.2 km of the Arys – Shymkent section. The work that began in March on the Akkum-Talap section of the Kyzylorda branch has been completed. Major repairs continue on the section from the railway station. Akmaya to
railroad crossing Yekpendy. The department plans to overhaul 43.16 km of track. About 70 km of the Atyrau branch railway will be renewed in the sections Mukur - Zhanterek - Kenbay, Zhamansor - railroad crossing 377 – Makat, railroad crossing 15 – Akkistau – Baksay.
The Aktobe branch of the main network began a major renovation of the railway according to schedule. This year, Aktobe railway workers will repair about 78 km. In the Mangystau region, about 39 km will be modernized.
In the Kostanay region, it is planned to overhaul more than 60.7 km of railway tracks on the sections Kostanay - Zhana-Yesil and Tobol-Kushmurun. Almost the same volume (61.1 km) is planned for the Semey branch of the backbone network. 31.5 km of the Bozshakol-Ulenty, Taskudyk-Sputnik railway sections are being modernized in the Pavlodar branch. Karaganda railway workers face the task of improving the health of 24 km of track. A large volume of work (110 km) as part of the planned overhaul will be carried out in areas within the boundaries of the Akmola branch of the trunk network.
In addition to major renovations, railway workers are performing enhanced mid- and mid-track repairs. Switches are being changed. Carry out a continuous change of rail supports, rail gauge and other preventive measures.
Track work is carried out using special equipment. In total, there are more than 730 units of various machines on the KTZ network: Duomatic, Unimat MF, straightening, tamping and straightening machines, RM-80, RM-2002, Atlas rail grinding trains, etc.
Carrying out planned work on the modernization and ongoing maintenance of infrastructure requires the introduction of temporary speed restrictions in sections, which affects compliance with the schedule of passenger and freight trains.
Annual track repairs help ensure the reliability of the railway infrastructure when transporting passengers and goods.
